Built in 1738-42 according to plans drawn up by Johann Michael Fischer and François Cuvilliés the Elder, ornamented with sculptures by Johann Baptist Straub and frescoes by Johann Baptist Zimmermann, this is one of the most impressive late-baroque churches in Bavaria. It is bright, colourful and the proportions were masterfully executed. The building was financed by a fund-raising campaign initiated in 1735 by Franz von Paula Würnzl, treasurer of the Michaelsbruderschaft, a religious organisation.
