Weather

Although German weather is capricious, it tends to be most stable in summer. It's rarely suffocatingly hot in Heidelberg, although it can be humid - afternoon summer storms are fairly common.

In April and May, when flowers and fruit trees are in bloom, it can be mild and sunny. Warm temperatures can hang around into autumn, making for an Altweibersommer (old maid's summer) in September and October.

In the winter months (November-early March) skies tend to be gloomy and the mercury often drops below zero and stays there for weeks. Brrr! Snow is possible from November.
