Dresden has a relatively cold climate compared with much of Western Europe. Temperatures regularly drop below freezing during December, January and February. Highs are usually only 2ºC (36ºF) for December and January. In December, average rainfall climbs above 15cm (6 inches) before dropping to the annual low of about 9cm (3.5 inches) in January. Summers are warm and wet. July and August see average temperatures hit highs of around 25ºC (77ºF), with lows of around 12.5ºC (54ºF). It may be sunny during the day, but it quickly cools off towards the evening, so don't be caught without at least a sweater or light jacket. June and July are the wettest months, averaging about 23cm (9 inches) of rain each.
