The only thing that would spoil Dresden, would be if were overcrowded with tourists.I simply love this place, the buildings, cafes, and the railway station.I've been twice, and will go back this November.I don't know anybody there, but who needs to when there's much to do.

(Report Problem)Dresden is a lovely city with many contrasts. The arcitecture of old Dresden is very impressive and definetly worth a visit. Dresden was the "culture capital of old Germany" as I am always reminded by my Grandparents and a lot of that culture is still reflected in the old part of town, despite the unbelievable distruction in 1945. If you're into art, the art gallery at the Swinger is pretty neet and just across from it is a museum that displays all sorts of armour from the middle ages with knights on horseback and all. (I think they kinda go together) If you want to shope this is the place to pick up those traditional German christmas smoking men and "pyramiden". There is usually a vender that hangs out in the street where the "Fuersten Zug" is displayed (during the summer months, when I've been there). He sells the little wood carved things at a couple of bucks cheaper than the local Christmas stores. Anyways I've been to the city a couple of times and hope to go back the next time I'm in Germany. Oh ya, the "Frauen Kirche" is also done with its renovations, at least from the outside. It looks like a mirrage with its white coloured bricks in the middle of all these ancient buildings. Definetly worth a look.

(Report Problem)I absolutely adore the town! I was there in 1998 with a school group. I went back in 1999, and saw the town all over again. I was offered a position teaching there, and unfortunately had to decline it. If you get an opportunity, see a show at the Semper. Of course don't miss Raphael' "Sistine Madonna". At the university "TU-Dresden", there is a "torture yard", that was used by the SS, to do interagations of suspected trouble makers. You can tour the prison cells, see the location of the guillatine, and view a plaque dedicated to those who died there. A cruise down the Elbe is a perfect end to the trip. I loved strolling around at night listening to the street musicians. Dresden is my second home! ICH BIN EIN DRESDENER!

(Report Problem)This was one of the most beautiful cities I have ever visited. My family and I saw it while driving across the river, and we had to stop. We got tiny ice cream cones and enjoyed the architecture. When we were walking next to the river we bought homemade soft pretzels from a vendor on the street. They were delicious. My favorite part of the town was definitely the food, followed by the architecture. I would love to go back!

(Report Problem)Dresden is an incredible city. Knowing that it was almost completely distroyed by fire bombs during WW II, it is amazing to see what has been rebuild. The history of this place is immense.

(Report Problem)I visited Dresden at Christmastime. The Christmas Markets and vendors created a beautiful, cozy atmosphere. I found the people of Dresden to be extremely intelligent, aware, and shrude. Although the nightlife seemed a bit, shall I say, missing, I found the architecture itself to be devastating and beautiful. So much history in the building blocks themselves. Dress warmly in the winter months, it is awfully windy and cold. Die Boofe is an excellent, clean, friendly youth hostel, though a bit out of the way, it lived up to the hype. As my first and only trip to Germany, Dresden was a great place to visit if you aren't afraid of being displaced in to a culture that doesn't yet show much signs of the dreaded "Americanization" that has unfortunately wreaked havoc upon countless European cities. Keep an eye out for Gypsy children. Also revel in one of the cleanest, most organized, and intelligent cities you'll probably ever visit.

(Report Problem)Walking around by the newly restored Opera House, the Frauenkirche, etc. was great. The Saxon history mural was also a highlight.
